Brunei Darussalam has made its voluntary contributions to CFTC since 1985.
Brunei Darussalam has gained benefits from assistance and training provided by the Commonwealth in the areas of trade, industries and human resources development. Most of the activities are conducted through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC).
On 13 November 2015, as part of Brunei Darussalam's contribution to the CFTC, an MOU between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Commonwealth Secretariat on the establishment of the Brunei Darussalam – Commonwealth Third Country Training Programme (BCTCTP) was signed. The main objective of the BCTCTP is to extend technical assistance to developing countries of the Commonwealth for their economic and social development. Since 2016, Brunei Darussalam has conducted five projects under the BCTCTP.
