Functions

  • PROTECTS and PROMOTES Brunei Darussalam's national interests through its membership to the United Nations, Commonwealth, OIC, NAM and others
  • PROMOTES and ENHANCES relations and cooperation with other countries in the multilateral arena
  • Serves as a FOCAL POINT in coordinating the work and activities of various international organisations, including technical assistance / capacity building programme
  • Liaises and coordinates with regional and international as well as national agencies on the work and activities under the United Nations, Commonwealth, OIC, NAM and others
  • MONITORS & ASSESSES developments on important issues, and  RECOMMENDS  national positions

Operational Goals
 
  
  • Promote and protect Brunei Darussalam's national interest in international organisations.
  • Promote dialogue and cooperation through multilateral framework and global partnership for the attainment of international peace, stability, harmony and prosperity for all.
  • Optimise Brunei Darussalam's participation in those international organisations in which Brunei Darussalam is a member.
  • Disseminate information regarding Brunei Darussalam's Foreign Policies and roles in international organisations.
 

 

Operational Tasks
 
  
  • Constantly review the progress and implementation of all major decisions or resolutions passed by international bodies including the attainment of major UN Declaration on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and ratification/accession of major international treaties and conventions of interest to Brunei Darussalam.
  • Update annual national reports as required by UN Security Council and other international bodies in coordination with lead agencies.
  • Liaise with relevant agencies in the country as to optimise technical assistance projects and programmes given by international organisations, in particular, in the areas of human resources development and capacity building under Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC) and NAM Centre in Jakarta.
  • Constantly monitor and analyse important global and trans-national issues of direct concern to Brunei Darussalam.
