BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT ON
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Brunei Darussalam is monitoring closely the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. Brunei Darussalam strongly condemns the continued acts of genocide in Gaza, and ongoing attacks in southern Lebanon, that have led to the loss of innocent civilian lives and destruction of infrastructure with impunity, as well as the displacement of people. This escalation of regional tensions is undermining global peace and stability.
The attacks constitute a serious violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic, triggering a dangerous spiral of violence with severe and lasting repercussions for the region and beyond.
We remain gravely concerned with ongoing hostilities, following the attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran on 28 February 2026, and the retaliatory strikes in the Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Kuwait, State of Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Iraq. Brunei Darussalam expresses deep condolences, sympathy and solidarity to those affected in the region.
We continue to be deeply concerned by the weakening of the rules-based international order, which further risks undermining multilateralism that is integral to ensuring global peace, security, stability, and prosperity. Brunei Darussalam reiterates its firm opposition to the use of force and calls for full respect for international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN).
Brunei Darussalam calls upon all Parties to exercise maximum restraint, cease further hostilities, and return to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing differences by peaceful means.
We reiterate the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeepers, including its assets and the protection of civilians, particularly as the situation continues to escalate in the region. Brunei Darussalam calls upon all Parties to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
