His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen Ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, attended the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States of America.
His Royal Highness underscored the importance of collective action among OIC Member States through coordinated diplomacy and stronger engagement within the United Nations, particularly on Palestine. His Royal Highness also stressed the need to uphold international law, respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and protect civilians.
His Royal Highness also attended the High-Level Ministerial Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s support for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. His Royal Highness also called for a permanent ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access and the protection of civilians, while stressing the need for concrete international action to preserve Palestine’s territorial integrity and advance a just and lasting peace.

His Royal Highness met with Her Excellency Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to working with Commonwealth member states and looked forward to continued engagement with the Commonwealth Secretariat. Both sides also discussed on the preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November 2026.
His Royal Highness then met with His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. Both sides reaffirmed the warm and long-standing ties between the two countries and welcomed opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
His Royal Highness, in the afternoon, met with His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, and expressed Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to working closely with His Excellency during his presidency. Both sides also discussed the ongoing reform of the United Nations.
His Royal Highness also met with His Excellency Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. Both sides welcomed the continued progress in bilateral cooperation and explored potential areas of collaboration, including defence, food and energy security. They also exchanged views on ASEAN-Türkiye relations, as well as regional and international developments.
His Royal Highness met with His Excellency Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Both sides welcomed the warm and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
His Royal Highness then met with His Excellency Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Both sides looked forward to commemorating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Russian Federation this year and welcomed opportunities to further deepen engagement. Both sides also discussed ASEAN-Russia relations and reaffirmed the importance of ASEAN Centrality, as well as exchanged views on international developments.
