BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT
ON ISRAEL'S ATTACK ON THE STATE OF QATAR
Brunei Darussalam strongly condemns Israel's attack on Doha, the State of Qatar, which constitutes a grave and unacceptable violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations (UN), in particular the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
We stand in full solidarity with the Government and the people of the State of Qatar, and express our unwavering support for all legitimate measures undertaken to safeguard its security and independence.
Israel's continued and unrestrained acts of aggression reflect a blatant disregard for international norms and for all ongoing efforts of peaceful dialogue and diplomacy, including through Qatar's pivotal role as mediator in achieving an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Brunei Darussalam reaffirms that the plight of the Palestinian people lies at the core of the conflict in the Middle East and must not be ignored.
We further stress that this dangerous and provocative action against a sovereign state is a direct insult to the authority and credibility of the UN itself, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC), whose primary responsibility is the maintenance of international peace and security. It also demonstrates contempt for the multilateral system and undermine the very principles upon which the UN was founded.
We urgently call upon the international community, especially the UNSC to fulfil their legal and moral responsibilities to compel Israel to cease all illegal acts and violence. Such reckless actions imperil innocent lives, dangerously escalate tensions, and threaten both regional and global peace and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam further informs that all registered Bruneians in Qatar are safe and accounted for. The Ministry continues to encourage all Bruneian nationals and permanent residents to register through the e-Register platform when traveling abroad (https://www.mfa.gov.bn/Pages/eRegister.aspx).
