BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT

ON THE RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the latest decision by the Occupying Power to fully seize control of the Gaza Strip. This action represents a continued and grave violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions. It further demonstrates a blatant disregard for the fundamental principles of humanity and the rules-based international order.

Brunei Darussalam joins the international community in demanding that the Occupying Power immediately cease all acts of violence and aggression in the Gaza Strip. The unlawful and inhumane measures it has undertaken, including the systematic and indiscriminate killing of defenceless civilians, the deliberate obstruction and weaponisation of humanitarian aid, and the total destruction of vital infrastructure, constitute acts of genocide.

We call for urgent, intensified efforts to secure an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, as well as to ensure safe, sustained, and unimpeded humanitarian access and the prompt delivery of life-saving assistance to the Palestinian people.

Brunei Darussalam urges the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take decisive and concrete measures toward achieving a just, comprehensive, and enduring peace. Such peace must be rooted in the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and in bringing an end to the decades-long occupation. The upcoming 80th session of the UN General Assembly presents a critical opportunity to translate commitments into concrete action, including by expanding international recognition of the State of Palestine. In this regard, Brunei Darussalam welcomes the recent decisions by countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Malta, and Portugal to recognise the State of Palestine without preconditions, joining the existing 147 UN Member States who have done so.

Brunei Darussalam reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and its steadfast support for the establishment of a fully independent, sovereign, and viable State of Palestine, based on the two-State solution and the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. We further advocate for the State of Palestine's admission as a full Member of the United Nations, pursuing a future where peace, justice, and dignity prevail for all.
