BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT

ON THE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam strongly condemns the latest wave of attacks by the Occupying Power in the Gaza Strip that caused hundreds of unjustifiable deaths and injuries of innocent lives, including women and children, as well as United Nations (UN) humanitarian aid workers.

These brutal acts of aggression are a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and demonstrate the Occupying Power's continued impunity in its defiance of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and the relevant UN resolutions.

The situation in Gaza, already a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions, has been further exacerbated by the complete blockade of humanitarian aid and stoppage of electricity and water.

Brunei Darussalam calls on the international community, in particular the UN Security Council to urgently take decisive measures to protect the rights of the Palestinians, and compel the Occupying Power to cease their ongoing violence and aggressions. The unabated continuation of these hostilities risks further spreading of the conflict into the wider region and beyond.

We emphasise the critical importance of resuming dialogue for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in all its phases to alleviate the immense suffering long endured by the Palestinian people, as well as address the root causes towards ending decades of occupation and violence by the Occupying Power.

Brunei Darussalam remains resolute in its solidarity with the Palestinians in their struggle for peace, freedom and inalienable rights to self-determination and reaffirms its steadfast position for the creation of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, on the basis of the two-State solution, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
