BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT

ON THE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam reaffirms its long-standing and steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and reiterates that the establishment of the State of Palestine on the basis of the two-State solution, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine is the only viable path for lasting peace and security in the Middle East.

We strongly reject any unilateral forced displacement of Palestinian people from their land, as such actions are a clear violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, the United Nations (UN) Charter, and the relevant UN resolutions.

We urge the international community to ensure respect for international law and uphold its responsibility in protecting the rights of the Palestinians, including returning to their homeland, and taking immediate and decisive steps to prevent any actions that can exacerbate tensions and further destabilise the region and beyond.

It is crucial that international efforts remain focused on enhancing the momentum of the ceasefire that came into effect on 19 January 2025, and in addressing the root causes towards ending decades of occupation, violence and expansion of illegal settlements by the Occupying Power.
