BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT

ON THE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam welcomes the ceasefire agreement in Gaza that came into effect on 19 January 2025. The deal marks a significant step in alleviating the immense suffering long endured by the Palestinian people, and in addressing the root causes towards ending decades of occupation and violence by the Occupying Power.

We commend the steadfast commitment and pivotal role of the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America as mediators in achieving this deal.

Brunei Darussalam urges all parties concerned to abide by and fulfil their obligations in upholding and implementing the agreement while ensuring the safe, intensified, sustained, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and to protect the rights of displaced Palestinians to return.

The plight of the Palestinians, and their struggle for their inalienable rights to self-determination, peace and freedom, remain at the core of the conflict in the Middle East. We reaffirm our support towards international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region on the basis of international law and the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.

Brunei Darussalam reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and supports the creation of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, on the basis of the two-State solution, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and advocates for Palestine's full membership in the UN.
