BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT ON

THE RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam is deeply concerned over the ongoing violent developments in the Middle East. We strongly condemn the continued indiscriminate killing which resulted in catastrophic humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, and the recent assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, who held a key role in the ceasefire negotiations.

Brunei Darussalam reiterates the importance of upholding international law including humanitarian and human rights law and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of any country.

We urge the international community to bring an end to the ongoing aggression and destruction to avoid further spread of the conflict into the wider region. We call on all parties concerned to exhaust every effort to de-escalate the situation and to continue engaging in constructive dialogue towards an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

The plight of the Palestinians for their inalienable rights to self-determination, peace and freedom remains at the core of the conflict in the Middle East. Brunei Darussalam reaffirms its steadfast support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, on the basis of the two-State solution, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
