Your Excellency,
It is with much sadness that I learned of the passing of His Excellency Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
He was a warm and steadfast friend, and I have fond memories of my interactions with him, including the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Partnership during my State Visit to Viet Nam in 2019. As a great statesman, the late Nguyen Phu Trong will always be remembered by the people of Viet Nam for his dedication to enhancing their overall well-being and pursuing the prosperity and development of the country.
The Government and people of Brunei Darussalam join me in expressing our most sincere condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and people of Viet Nam, especially to the bereaved family of the late Nguyen PhuTrong.
