BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATEMENT ON

THE RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brunei Darussalam remains deeply concerned over the recent developments in the Middle East and continues to monitor the situation closely.

We strongly urge all parties to remain calm and exercise utmost restraint to prevent further escalation, in the interest of safeguarding regional and international peace, security and stability.

Brunei Darussalam also stresses the importance of upholding international law, the United Nations (UN) Charter and the Vienna Conventions, including respect for the principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel.

We underscore that the latest heightened tensions should not serve to divert attention from the Palestinian cause, which remains the core of the conflict in the Middle East.

We reiterate our call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and for the Occupying Power to abide by international law, including international humanitarian law, international human rights law, the UN Charter and all relevant UN resolutions. We call on the UN Security Council to fulfil its obligations in upholding international peace and security, and in ensuring full accountability from the Occupying Power.
