Brunei Citizen Services
It is advisable to contact the Consular Department for any consular related enquiries before coming to the High Commission.
1. PASSPORT RENEWAL
Bruneian nationals who wishes to renew their passport are advise to apply six (6) months before its expiry date. Requirements for renewal of passport are as follows:
- Explanatory letter detailing reasons for renewing and why you are not able to go back to Brunei to renew, addressed to the Director of Immigration and National Registration Department, Brunei Darussalam. Applicants should also include full contact details.
- Completed passport renewal form (Download form here)
- Four (4) recent passport-sized photos (white background)
- Two (2) copies of Brunei Darussalam Identity Card (ID must be valid)
- Two (2) copies of Brunei Darussalam passport
- Two (2) copies of birth certificate
- Two (2) copies of marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Payment fee of B$60.00 – payable in pounds sterling based on the Brunei Government current exchange rate (cash / postal order or cheque payable to Brunei High Commission)
All documents should be mailed and addressed to:

IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Students are required to apply through Brunei Students Unit.
- Letter from employer are required for Bruneians who are working in the UK.
- Applicants are required to collect the document from the Brunei High Commission Office (appointment booking needed prior to the visit)
- A self-addressed pre-paid envelope (Royal Mail Registered and Next Day Delivery) is required should the applicant choose for the document to be delivered by post. The High Commission shall not be held responsible should the document go missing/lost during transit/delivery.
For Bruneian nationals who lost their passport, they are required to report to the High Commission as soon as possible. To replace a lost passport, the requirements are as above with additional requirements as follows:
- Explanatory letter detailing how and when the passport was lost
- Copy of police report
- Surcharge fee of BND$150 for the first time, BND$300 for the second time and BND$450 for the fourth time and more (Payable in Pounds Sterling based on the Brunei Government current exchange rate).
Bruneian citizens who have lost their passport while visiting
United Kingdom should apply for an emergency certificate
(Sijil Darurat) through the High Commission as soon as possible.
The certificate is a one-way travel document to be used for return to Brunei Darussalam only.
Requirements:
- An explanatory letter explaining the reason for requesting the Certificate;
- One (1) application form;
- Two (2) copies of Brunei passport;
- Two (2) copies of police report;
- Two (2) copies of Brunei Identity Card (both sides) or Identification Certificate; (ID must be still valid)
- Two (2) copies of birth certificate;
- Letter of certification from present school/college/university (if studying) or employer (if working) [For those residing in United Kingdom];
- Two (2) passport-sized photographs (white background);
- Flight itinerary;
- Information on occupation, height, eye and hair colour must also be mentioned;
- Payment fee of BND$20 (Payable in Pounds Sterling based on the Brunei Government current exchange rate)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Applicants are required to collect the document from the Brunei High Commission Office (appointment booking needed prior to the visit)

For a child of Bruneian citizen born in the United Kingdom can also apply for an emergency certificate to be used for returning to Brunei Darussalam. The application as above should be submitted with the following additional documents:
- Two (2) copies of parents’ passports;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ identity cards;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ birth certificates;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ marriage certificate.
A child born in United Kingdom whose father is a Brunei citizen should be reported and registered to the High Commission immediately. An application form for registration can be requested from the High Commission and should be returned complete with the following documents:
- An explanatory letter from the father addressed to the Department of Immigration and National Registration, Brunei Darussalam stating the reason for being in United Kingdom (including supporting documents)
- Two (2) copies of child’s Certificate of Birth and Certified Copy of an Entry (Pursuant to the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953)
- Two (2) copies of parents’ passports;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ identity cards;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ birth certificates;
- Two (2) copies of parents’ marriage certificate.
If an issuance of certification of citizenship is required, the above application should be submitted with the following documents:
- Two (2) copies of completed Form A1
- Two (2) copies of completed Form D
- Letter of certification from present school/college/university (if studying) or employer (if working) [For those residing in United Kingdom.
4. ID RENEWAL
Brunei Darussalam Identity Card renewal cannot be done through the High Commission as it is centrally done at the Department of Immigration and Registration, Brunei Darussalam.
However, any expired, lost or damaged identity card must be reported to the High Commission by writing, with following details:
- Full name
- Full and latest/current address
- Phone Number
- Date of expiry/lost
- Details of how and when the identity card was lost
- Reason for being in the United Kingdom
The High Commission will issue an official letter to the Department of Immigration and Registration, Brunei Darussalam. A copy of the letter (or copy of the reply letter from the Department of Immigration and Registration, Brunei Darussalam) will be given to applicant for them to bring along to the Department of Immigration and Registration, for the renewal process.
