On 26 March 2024, The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II and The Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, Minister of State (Indo-Pacific) at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) co-chaired the 3rd Strategic Dialogue between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom.
Both sides recognised the significance of 2024 as the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom.
The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan reaffirmed the long-standing and historical friendship between the two countries, particularly between the Royal Families and peoples. Bilateral relations are underpinned by three major pillars: defence, education, and trade and investment.
The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international matters, including the developments in the Middle East, Ukraine, the South China Sea, and Myanmar.
The United Kingdom expressed appreciation for Brunei Darussalam's support for the United Kingdom to become a Dialogue Partner of ASEAN in 2021, and for its role since then as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-UK Dialogue Relations.
The Ministers looked forward to the next UK-Brunei Darussalam Strategic Dialogue, to be held in 2025 in Brunei Darussalam.
The Rt Hon Lord David Cameron of Chipping Norton, Secretary of State for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs and The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan also had a bilateral discussion on the sidelines of the Strategic Dialogue.
