REGISTRATION OF CITIZENS OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

It is advisable for Brunei Darussalam's citizens residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to register with the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is important to ensure of their well-being in the country at any time.

TRAVELLING TO BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

Foreign nationals who wish to enter Brunei Darussalam should have the following:

a.     A valid visa (single entry or multiple entries);

b.     A passport (or) travel document with validity not less than six (6) months;

c.     Return (or) onward travel tickets;

d.     Sufficient funds for the period of stay;

e.     Hotel confirmation.


REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY VISA TO ENTER BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

The following documents are required for the visa application process at the Consulate General of Brunei Darussalam in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

  • Two (2) copies of complete Visa Application Form, which can be obtained from the Consulate General of Brunei Darussalam in Jeddah or click here
  • Two (2) copies of Applicant's Passports – [Please ensure the validity is no less than six (6) months with sufficient pages for onward journey]
  • Two (2) Original Passport Size Photos;
  • A copy of return (or) onward Flight Itinerary ;
  • A copy of confirmed Accomodation;
  • Sufficient funds for the period of stay in Brunei Darussalam - (in some cases a bank statement is required); 

For purposes other than social visits, the following documents may also required:

  • A 'Letter of Authority to Issue Visa' from Immigration Department of Brunei Darussalam (for employmet purposes only) ;
  • A 'Verification Letter' from the sponsors / employers (for employment, business or official meeting purposes only) ;

Note: It is advisable to submit the application forms together with the required documents to the Consulate at least three (3) weeks before the scheduled travel to Brunei Darussalam. However, for countries that required to be referred to Brunei Darussalam, it is advised to submit the applications even earlier.

 

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

APPLICATIONS FOR A NEW PASSPORT OR RENEWAL

Brunei Darussalam's citizens abroad who wish to apply (or) renew their passports are advice to approach the nearest Brunei Mission at the country of residence for necessary arrangements.

It can also be obtained from the Consulate General, together with list of requirements for the process.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR A NEW PASSPORT

The following documents are required from the applicants:

1.     A letter addressed to the Consulate stating the request to apply for a new passport with reason;

2.     Passport Application Form which has been duly completed;

3.     Two (2) copies of Birth Certificate – both sides (and original for verification);

4.     Two (2) copies of Identity Card – both sides (if applicable);  (and original for verification);

5.     Four (4) copies of recent Original Passport Size Photos (5.2cm x 4cm);

6.     Two (2) copies of Marriage Certificate (if applicable); (and original for verification);

7.     Copy of Certificate of Citizenship (Sijil Kerakyatan) (if applicable); (and original for verification);


REQUIREMENTS FOR RENEWAL OF PASSPORTS

The following documents are required from the applicants:

  • A letter addressed to the Consulate stating the request to apply for a passport renewal with reason;
  • Passport Application Form which has been duly completed;
  • Two (2) copies of Birth Certificate – both sides;
  • Two (2) copies of Identity Card – both sides (if applicable);
  • Four (4) copies of recent Original Passport Size Photos (5.2cm x 4cm);
  • Two (2) copies of old passport with a photocopy of personal details page;
  • Two (2) copies of Police Reports (in case of lost passports). The applicant is also required to fill in a 'Statement Form' before the passport application can be considered.
  • Letter of Certification from present educational institutions (for students) or employer (for employees).

EMERGENCY CERTIFICATE (C.E.) @ SIJIL DARURAT

This type of travel document is issued to Brunei Darussalam's citizens abroad who is facing the following situations:

Lost or damage of travel document while staying outside Brunei Darussalam and there is need to go home at the shortest period of time;

New born baby outside Brunei Darussalam, whose father is a legitimate citizens of Brunei Darussalam, and decided to bring back home the baby to Brunei Darussalam.

Validity: One way trip only to Brunei Darussalam within 6 months from the date of issue.

Fee       : B$20.00 @ SR57.00


REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

The following documents are required from the applicants:

  • A letter addressed to the Consulate stating the request to apply for a C.E with reason;
  • Application Form which has been duly completed (can be obtained from the Embassy);
  • Two (2) copies of lost or damaged Passport;
  • Four (4) copies of recent Original Passport Size Photos (5.2cm x 4cm);
  • Two (2) copies of Identity Card – both sides (if applicable);
  • Two (2) copies of Police Reports (in case of lost passports). The applicant is also required to fill in a 'Statement Form' before the application can be considered.

Additional documents are required for the new born baby:

  • Two (2) copies of Child's Birth Certificate – both sides (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Parents' Marriage Certificate (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Parents' Birth Certificates – both sides (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Parents' Identity Cards – both sides (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Parents' Passports (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Certificate of Citizenship (Sijil Kerakyatan) (if applicable); (and original for verification).

 

RENEWAL OF CERTIFICATE OF IDENTITY (C.I.) AND RE-ENTRY PERMIT

This type of travel document is only issued to Brunei Darussalam's permanent resident with a 'stateless' status.

C.I. Validity: 5 years from the date of issue

Re-Entry Permit: 1 year

Fee: B$50.00 @ SR143.00


REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION

It is advisable for the applicants to submit their proposal at least three (3) months before expiry. The following documents are required from the applicants:

  • A letter addressed to the Consulate stating the request to apply for a C.I with reason;
  • Application Form which has been duly completed (can be obtained from the Consulate);
  • Two (2) copies of previous C.I. or Re-entry Permit;
  • Two (2) copies of Birth Certificate – both sides; (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Identity Card – both sides (if applicable); (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Marriage Certificate (if applicable); (and original for verification);
  • Four (4) copies of recent Original Passport Size Photos (5.2cm x 4cm);
  • Two (2) copies of Police Reports (in case of lost travel document). The applicant is also required to fill in a 'Statement Form' before the application can be considered.
  • Letter of Certification from present educational institutions (for students) or employer (for employees).
  • Resident Card Permit / Entry Permit Card - (copy and original) (for application of Certificate of Identity only)


SURCHARGES FOR LOST TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

It is necessary for those who lost their travel documents to pay the surcharges in addition to the existing fees of the services mentioned above:

REGISTRATION OF BIRTH FOR NEW BORN BABY OUTSIDE BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

THE PROCEDURE

Every new born baby outside Brunei Darussalam, whose father / mother is a citizen of Brunei Darussalam need to be registered at the Consulate, followed by other arrangements; such as application for 'Certification of Citizenship' and travel document (Passport or C.E.).


REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION OF 'CERTIFICATION OF CITIZENSHIP' 

The following documents are required from the parents:

  • An application letter addressed to the Consulate informing about the purpose of applying for the citizenship together with details of the new born baby. The letter may also specify the reasons of giving birth outside Brunei Darussalam (working; studying; official trip; personal);
  • A complete Application To Register At Brunei Mission Abroad The Birth Of A Child Born Outside Brunei Whose Father Is A Citizens of Brunei form (can be obtained from the Consulate);
  •  A complete A1 (Peraturan 4(1)) or D (Peraturan 7(1)) forms (can be obtained from the Consulate);
  • Two (2) copies of Birth Certificate – both sides (and original for verification) with translation (if necessary);
  • Two (2) copies of Identity Card – both sides (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Marriage Certificate (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of Passports – personal details page (and original for verification);

Documents required from the new born baby:

  • Two (2) copies of Birth Certificate issued by the residing country (and original for verification);
  • Two (2) copies of recent Original Passport Size Photos (5.2cm x 4cm);

LAW AND REGULATIONS

PHYSICAL CURRENCY AND BEARER NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENTS (CBNI) DECLARATION

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Beginning of 1st August 2011, Authority Monetary Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) is requiring all persons traveling in or out of Brunei Darussalam, carrying more than B$ 15,000.00 [Brunei Dollars: Fifteen Thousand] in physical currency or bearer negotiable instruments, such as checks, bonds, or bills of exchange, among others, to declare them upon entry or exit at all control posts.

The requirement is in accordance with Brunei Darussalam's Anti-Money Laundering Order 2000 and is in line with international standards that require countries to have measures in place to detect the physical cross-border movement of cash and bearer-negotiable instruments.

Failure to give a full and accurate report can result in a fine not exceeding B$ 40,000.00 [Brunei Dollars: Forty Thousand] or the equivalent of the amount of the customs duty payable, whichever is greater, imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.

The declaration should be made before either the Royal Customs and Excise Department upon arrival, or the Immigration and National Registration Department upon departure, using specific forms that will be made available.


POLICE CERTIFICATE OF GOOD CONDUCT

Those requiring a 'Police Certificate of Good Conduct' from Brunei Darussalam should submit the following documents to the Consulate:

  • An explanatory letter addressed to the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force informing the reason of the request with detail background of the applicant's previous stay in Brunei Darussalam;
  • Two (2) copies of Applicant's Passports;
  • Personal Details – including mailing address, email and contact numbers
