REMARKS

HRH PRINCE MOHAMED BOLKIAH
MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

at the Opening of the First Info-Communications Incubator in Brunei Darussalam
on 26 March 2008

Your Excellencies, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Thank you all very much for coming.  It’s a pleasure to see you here.

Dato Timothy has given you a good idea of the I-centre but, before opening it, I would just like to say a few words about how I personally see it.

Basically, it is all about helping our people: helping them look for opportunities; helping them set things up; helping them get more knowledge; improve their skills and talents; and, above all, helping them to make sure their businesses and companies work well.

In other words, giving them the chance to take on the modern world with confidence.

It is a very special project and it’s for a very special group of people - our own men and women with great ideas and lots of courage who want to prove themselves in the business world.

They are in what’s often called “small and medium enterprises”or “SME’s”

Personally, however, I see nothing small or medium about them.  They are an important part of our country’s future and I very much admire their determination and hard work.

I also know that they can’t be left to work alone.  They must be helped in the best possible way.  They don’t need government protection and they don’t need words and speeches.

They need facilities.  They need knowledge.  They need research  and they need world class advice, both from within our country, and from high-level professionals overseas.

At present, these are from our good neighbours in Singapore and Malaysia but maybe, later on, they will come from all around the world.

Those are the things that will help our  business people succeed and that is where the I-centre comes in.

It may be a small beginning but it sends out important messages.  They are the ones I am sure all our businessmen and women want to hear.

We support you.

We encourage you.

And we hear you.

You want action not words?

Well, this is action!

The best kind of action.

It is one that hands responsibility to those who will light up our commercial future, the bright young business stars of Brunei, the men and women who want to introduce exciting, high-class products to the world.

As it says on the sign across the road, this is your centre.

And I congratulate all of you who are already using it.

Thanks to you, today, I am not just opening a building.

I am opening your future.

And with that, Your Excellencies, Distinguished guests…..

….. In the name of Allah Most Compassionate and Most Merciful….

….I have great pleasure in declaring the first Info-Communcations Incubator in Brunei Darussalam officially open.

Thank you
