MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE ATTENDS  ASEAN MEETINGS IN NEW YORK

27 September 2007 - His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this morning attended the Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (IAMM) at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers discussed the third progress report of the High Level Task Force on the ASEAN Charter. Ministers also discussed outstanding ASEAN matters and agreed that the Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee would issue a statement on the current situation in Myanmar.

His Royal Highness and other Foreign Ministers of ASEAN later witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on ASEAN-UN Cooperation by the Secretary-Generals of ASEAN and the UN
 

His Royal Highness joined other ASEAN Foreign Ministers at a Meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN. The Meeting discussed ways to enhance ASEAN-UN cooperation.


His Royal Highness, this afternoon, attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting with Her Excellency Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State of the United States of America. Ministers discussed progress in ASEAN-US dialogue relations and reviewed regional and international affairs.


His Royal Highness this evening attended a reception hosted by The Hon. Datuk Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN in New York. The Reception was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Malaysia’s membership to the UN, and in honour of The Right Hon. Dato’ Seri Haji Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
