22 September 2006 – His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade attended the Informal ASEAN
Ministerial Meeting which was held
at the united Nations Headquarters,
New York.
The Meeting was chaired by His
Excellency Alberto G. Romulo,
Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Philippines and Chairman
of the ASEAN Standing Committee (ASC).
The Meeting discussed several ASEAN
matters, including ASEAN
candidatures for various United
Nations Bodies.
In the afternoon, His Royal Highness
attended an ASEAN luncheon in honour
of Her Excellency Sheikha Haya
Rashed Al-Khalifa, President of the
61st session of the
United Nations General Assembly.
Also present was His Excellency Kofi
Annan, Secretary-General of the
United Nations.

In the evening, His Royal Highness
addressed the 61st United
Nations General Assembly and
delivered a statement on the
proposed reforms of the
organization. His Royal Highness
called for an approach that went
further than purely administrative
reform and aimed at providing the
United Nations with the means to
meet 21st Century
challenges on 21 Century terms,
rather than those of the 20th
or even 19th Centuries.
