SECOND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE ATTENDS THE 39TH ASEAN MINISTERIAL MEETING (AMM) IN KULALA LUMPU, MALAYSIA

39th ASEAN MINISTERIAL MEETING STARTS TODAY

24 July 2006 – The 39th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting starts today with the convening of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Informal Working Dinner hosted by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Present at the dinner was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Brunei Darussalam.

Prior to the informal Working Dinner, ASEAN Foreign Ministers held a Special Session meeting with His Excellency Surakiart Sathirathai, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand who is ASEAN’s candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General.

The theme for the 39th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting is “Forging A United, Resilient and Integrated ASEAN”.
