HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM ATTENDS THE SIGNING CEREMONY OF THE KUALA LUMPUR DECLARATION

His Majesty the Sultan and yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN leaders at the Signing Ceremony of “ The Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN Charter “ at the Theatre Plenary, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. 12 December 2005 – His Majesty consented to join other ASEAN Heads of State and Government to sign the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN Charter. Present at the signing ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
 
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the first to ink the document, followed by the leaders of the other nine countries. The document was then handed over to Asean Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong.
 
The Declaration states that the ASEAN Charter will, among others, serve as a legal and institutional framework of ASEAN to support the realisation of its goals and objectives.
