THE SULTANATE OF OMAN
Brunei Darussalam and the Sultanate of Oman established diplomatic relations on 24 March 1984. Both have also established embassies in their respective capitals (Muscat on 1 February 1990 and Bandar Seri Begawan on 25 August 1986).
The current Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Oman is His Excellency Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awang Besar bin Haji Abu Bakar.
A number of agreements have been signed between both countries:
- Agreement on Air Services between and beyond their Respective Territories;
- Agreement on Allocation of Diplomatic Building Plots;
- Agreement on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Foreign Investment;
- Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income;
- Agreement to establish the Oman – Brunei Investment Holding Company;
- MOU on Express Mail Service;
- MOU on Cooperation in Islamic Affairs;
- MOU on Trade and Commerce between Brunei Darussalam’s National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Omani Chamber of Commerce and Industry;
- MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Information;
- MOU between the UBD and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU);
- MOU in all fields of service to Culture and Heritage;
- MOU in the fields of High Education, Education and Training between Brunei LNG and Oman LNG;
- MOU between the Ministry of Health of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman; and
- MOU on the establishment of a Joint Investment Fund.
A Joint Working Group known as “Bilateral Consultative Meeting” was established in 1993 with the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations. Various areas of cooperation have been identified in areas such as trade and investment; oil and gas; education; air services; municipality; religious matters; agriculture and fisheries; culture and information.
The 1st Brunei Darussalam-Oman Joint Committee Meeting was held in Bandar Seri Begawan in June 2010.
