6 February 2020 - EVACUATION OPERATION OF TWO BRUNEI NATIONALS FROM WUHAN, HUBEI PROVINCE, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

In light of the current development and the concern of the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is making every effort to ensure the welfare, health and safety of its citizens is taken care of, both at home and overseas.   In doing so, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through our Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Beijing have been working closely with the Chinese Government and stakeholders in Brunei Darussalam in making sure that appropriate measures are implemented.
 
In ensuring the health and safety of our nationals abroad, 73 registered students in the People’s Republic of China, under the Chinese Scholarship Council, One Belt One Road Scholarship and Hengyi Scholarship, have safely returned to Brunei Darussalam and are reportedly healthy and free from infections.  Two Bruneians, one student and a tourist, are still in Wuhan awaiting evacuation to Brunei Darussalam.

The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will be sending a Flight to Wuhan to bring back our nationals and a joint effort between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and Royal Brunei (RB) are in full swing to operationalise the flight operated by RB.  The flight will consist of two medical officers from the Ministry of Health, and four RB crew members. Necessary precautionary measures will also be undertaken to ensure the safe return of the two Bruneians, medical officers and flight crews. The flight is ready to depart at the earliest on Friday, 7th February 2020, pending approval from the Chinese Government.
 
The Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Beijing has also been in constant communication with the two Bruneians to ensure their continued wellbeing.
